Frequently Asked Questions

Does my insurance cover sessions?

All commercial health insurance plans are required to provide mental health benefits. To bill for services, someone must qualify for a mental health diagnosis such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, etc.  To learn how your specific plan works, call you member’s services number on your insurance card and ask about outpatient mental health benefits.

How much will I pay out of pocket?

If using in-network benefits, outpatient mental health services have similar out of pocket costs to visits to your primary care provider. Your insurance card should list what your typical copay and deductible is for in-network services. If you have specialist copay listed, counselors are typically counted as a specialist. To learn how your specific plan works, call you member’s services number on your insurance card and ask about outpatient mental health benefits.

How does out of network billing work?

If I am out of network for your insurance, you can use your out of network benefit. At the time of session, you will pay the session fee. Next, I will bill your insurance under your out of network benefits and they will reimburse you directly for what is covered. It is important to know how your out of network benefit work. Most plans have a separate out of network deductible and/or co-pay.  To learn how your specific plan works, call you member’s services number on your insurance card and ask about outpatient mental health benefits.
